The Impact of Laparoscopic Training; Home Made Laparoscopic training box

INTRODUCTION: laparoscopic urological surgery practice today has been the backbone of minimally invasive surgery. The benefits for patients has been proven countless times in literature; short recovery, little surigcal scars, and to return back to the to work are some of them.. This surgery is a certain learning curve and this is the limitation of these surgical procedures. Short-term training courses in laparoscopy, even in basic laparoscopic exercises in the rooms of surgeons in training boxes are prooved for over come this limitations. We would like to introduce our homemade laparoscopic training box for this purpose.
Materials METHODS: Totally homemade laparoscopic training box consisted of 19 liters water bottle. Additionally a camera is needed to view with apparatus for television connection. Carboy should be divided vertically. Whereby 2 laparoscopic training box can be obtained (Figure 1-A). Then, a window with 10x10cm sized should be opened at the bottom of carboy. We need 4 tires under carboy to connect on a hard surface preferably be wooden (Figure 1-B). After the connection is made, the camera is ready to use (Figure 1-C). Accoridng to design of our training box, we do not need a light source, because of the carboy is semi-transparent and/or transparent. This provides financial gain.
DISCUSSION: The laparoscopic urologic surgery procedures require laparoscopic training prior to apply. This training can be performed at home after learnign form short-term courses.We introduced laparoscopic training box in the home environment is both practical and inexpensive to make. The light source is an advantage as the material can not be a requirement. Our training can consist of easily obtainable materials all over the country. This allows easily reproduced.
CONCLUSION: There is learning curve for laparoscopic urologic procedures. After learning basic laparoscopic training skills, more and more laparoscopic training at simple homemade training boxes can hel to over come these learnign curves.
